1. Who we are

Laois Angling Centre ("we", "us", "our") operates the fishery at Coolrain, Co. Laois and this website, laoisanglingcentre.ie. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is used.

We are not required to appoint a Data Protection Officer. Any question about this policy or about your information should go to the email address above.

2. The short version

We are a small fishery, not a data business. In practice:

3. What we collect and why

Under data protection law we must have a valid "legal basis" for every use of your information. The table below sets out what we collect, why, and on what basis.

Providing your information is voluntary. If you choose not to give us your contact details, we simply will not be able to answer your enquiry or hold a group booking for you.

What we do not do

We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling. We do not send marketing emails or newsletters. We do not run advertising or analytics tracking on this website.

4. Cookies and tracking technologies

Cookies are small files a website can store on your device. Under Irish law (the ePrivacy Regulations, S.I. 336 of 2011) we need your consent before using any cookie that is not strictly necessary.

This website does not set any cookies of its own. We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics service, and we do not use advertising or social media tracking pixels.

Google Maps

Our Contact section includes an embedded Google Map so you can find us. TO CONFIRM once the click-to-load map is in place — if the map only loads after the visitor clicks, replace this paragraph with wording that says so, and that clicking is what gives consent. When the map loads, Google receives your IP address and may set cookies on your device, including the NID cookie which Google uses to remember preferences and for security. These cookies are set by Google, not by us, and we cannot read them.

How Google uses this information is described in the Google Privacy Policy. You can also find our location without loading the map by entering our Eircode R32 NF80 into any sat-nav or maps app.

Fonts

This website currently loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads. TO REMOVE once the fonts are self-hosted — at that point this whole subsection should be deleted.

Managing cookies

You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings, and you can set most browsers to refuse third-party cookies entirely. Doing so will not stop you using this website, though the embedded map may not work correctly.

5. Who we share information with

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only where we need to, and only with:

Every one of these providers acts on our instructions, is bound by a written agreement, and may use your information only to deliver the service we have asked them for. None of them may use it for their own purposes.

If you would like to know exactly which companies we use, please just ask us and we will tell you.

6. Transfers outside the EEA

Some of our service providers are based outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States, which means your information may be transferred there. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards recognised under the GDPR — either the provider's certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. You can ask us for more detail about these safeguards using the contact details in section 13.

7. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as we actually need it.

8. Photography, video and children

We sometimes take photographs and video at the fishery — at competitions, events, lessons and group visits — and use them on this website and our Facebook page to show what the centre is like.

If you would prefer not to be photographed during a visit, please just tell a member of staff on arrival and we will respect that.

Children's information generally

This website is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from children through it. Where children attend the fishery through our fishing school or a school or youth group, we deal with the parent, guardian or group organiser, and we collect only what we need for the visit and for safety.

9. How we protect your information

We take reasonable steps to keep your information safe. Our website is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Access to our email and booking records is limited to the people who run the centre, and accounts are protected by passwords. Paper records, where we keep them, are stored securely on site.

No method of transmitting information over the internet is completely secure. Please avoid sending us sensitive personal information by email unless it is necessary for your booking.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the following rights over your personal information:

To exercise any of these rights, email info@laoisanglingcentre.ie. We will respond within one month. There is no charge, and we may need to confirm your identity first so that we do not disclose information to the wrong person.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first — we would like the chance to put it right. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission, the Irish supervisory authority, at www.dataprotection.ie.

11. Links to other websites

This website links to our Facebook page and to Google Maps. Once you follow a link to another website, this policy no longer applies — those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for how they handle your information. We would encourage you to read them.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we change how the website works or start using a new service provider. The date at the top of the page always shows when it was last changed. Where a change is significant, we will make that clear on the website.
